How-To: 'USB Battery' v2

hack a day has some basic instructions on building a portable USB charger powered by a 9-volt battery. This will allow you to recharge your portable device through its USB port when you don't have access to a computer or a power adapter.

Update: Posted in one of the comments in the article is a modification of the design to use a switching voltage regulator. Link.

I'm useing a 4th Gen Ipod and I built this while useing a 5v power supply. This device does not seem to charge or anything. I don't have a Charger for my Ipod anymore. I don't feel like buying one ether. My ipod is stuck in a reboot firmware mode and needs to be connected to a charger. I tried this in 2 forms, I use the shuffle idea connecting the -d and +d to the ground,

pin1=+5v ; pin2=-5v ; pin3=-5v ;pin4=-5v

and then keeping them by them selfs.

pin1=+5v ; pin2=null ; pin3=null2 ; pin4=-5v.

My devices charges via USB port on my computer. Can anyone point me to a dirrection where I can find the solution to my problem without haveing to spend $25 bucks on a wall charger?
